Mary South is a native of Northeastern Ohio.  After growing up in Wooster, Ohio she graduated from the College of Wooster and earned her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She and her husband then moved to North Carolina where she completed a four year residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and then a three year fellowship in Urogynecology at Duke University Hospital.

While in residency, Dr. South was named Chief Resident by her attendings and colleagues and was the recipient of the  2004 Robert A. Ross Research Award awarded by a panel of judges at the William Droegemueller Resident Clinical Studies Day to a third year resident with the best research presentation. 

During fellowship and beyond, Dr. South has published various peer-reviewed journal articles and review articles . She has also contributed chapters to several books and presented award-winning educational videos on surgical techniques at national medical conferences.

Following fellowship, Dr. South joined the faculty of the University of Cincinnati where she served as the Division Director for the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery as well as co-fellowship director until returning to NEO in 2014.  

Her husband, Andrew, is a Neonatologist at Akron Children's Medical Center.  They have three active children and enjoy hiking in the metro parks and biking on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
